Kalanchoe delagoensis, commonly known as the Chandelier Plant, Mother of Millions, or Devil's Backbone, is a striking succulent native to Madagascar. It features tall, tubular, fleshy stems with narrow, grey-green leaves speckled with dark brown or purple markings. The edges of the leaves produce tiny plantlets, which fall and root in soil, allowing the plant to spread rapidly. In the right conditions, it blooms with clusters of tubular, orange-red flowers, adding even more visual interest to this fast-growing plant.

Kalanchoe delagoensis is a hardy and fast-spreading succulent that is perfect for succulent lovers looking for a unique and low-maintenance plant. Its self-propagating nature makes it easy to grow, but care should be taken to manage its spread in outdoor settings.

Light

Thrives in bright, indirect sunlight.

Can tolerate full sun but should be introduced gradually to avoid leaf burn.

Indoors, place near a south- or west-facing window.

Water

Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings.

Overwatering can cause root rot.

Reduce watering during the winter when the plant is dormant.

Humidity

Prefers low to moderate humidity.

Avoid excessive moisture, which can lead to fungal issues.

Temperature

Ideal temperature range: 15-29°C.

Protect from frost and temperatures below 4°C.

Soil

Use a well-draining cactus or succulent mix.

Adding perlite or sand improves drainage.

Fertilisation

Feed with a diluted succulent or cactus fertiliser every 4-6 weeks during spring and summer.

Skip fertilisation during fall and winter.

Repotting

Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant becomes root-bound.

Use a pot with drainage holes to prevent waterlogging.

Pruning

Remove dead or damaged leaves and spent flowers.

Prune leggy growth to maintain a more compact appearance.

Propagation

Propagates easily through the plantlets that form along the leaf edges.

Allow plantlets to fall naturally or place them in well-draining soil to grow new plants.
